OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 19, 2013) – Oklahoma Bar Association President Jim Stuart of Shawnee presented four attorneys with OBA President’s Awards Thursday [Nov. 14, 2013] at the OBA Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City.
Cathy Christensen and Drew Edmondson of Oklahoma City, Melissa DeLacerda of Stillwater and Joe Vorndran of Shawnee were honored with the awards.
Christensen, an Oklahoma City lawyer, was honored for her service and counsel as the immediate OBA past president. An OCU School of Law graduate, Christensen practices at the Law Office of Cathy M. Christensen PC in Oklahoma City. Since her admission to the bar in 1987, she has served in many leadership roles including OBA vice-president in 1994 and president in 2012. Christensen also received a President’s Award in 2008.
Stuart selected DeLacerda for the award in recognition of her outstanding leadership planning the Southern Conference of Bar Presidents meeting that was held last month in Oklahoma City. The SCBP consists of bar presidents, presidents-elect, past presidents and bar association executive directors from 17 states and the Virgin Islands who meet annually. Each state in the conference hosts the event once every 18 years.
DeLacerda has been in private practice in Stillwater since 1979. She served as OBA president in 2003 and currently chairs the OBA Board of Editors and serves on the Professional Responsibility Commission, charged with considering and investigating any alleged grounds for professional discipline or alleged incapacity of an Oklahoma lawyer.
Edmondson, former attorney general and now shareholder with the GableGotwals law firm in Oklahoma City, received the honor for his outstanding service as Oklahoma Justice Commission chairperson. The commission was tasked with enhancing the reliability and accuracy of convictions.
Vorndran received the award for his outstanding service to the bar as the Young Lawyers Division chairperson. Stuart and Vorndran are partners with the Shawnee law firm of Stuart, Clover, Duran, Thomas & Vorndran LLP.
It is unusual to have two law partners serve in high leadership positions within the bar, particularly in the same year. However, it enabled Stuart and Vorndran to work closely on bar business, particularly on the coordination of the OBA Day of Service in September that saw Oklahoma attorneys complete over 60 service projects across the state. Vorndran’s practice focuses on general civil litigation and corporate and municipal law. He received his J.D. from the OU College of Law in 2006.
