Young Lawyers Staff Sorting Site for Food Drive Donations
Young Lawyers Division board members rolled up their sleeves on Saturday, May 10, to sort food donated to the Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. Oklahoma City residents left by their mailboxes assorted food items, which were picked up by the mail carriers. Food donations will benefit food pantries and other programs that feed the needy supported by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
YLD participants were Kaleb Hennigh, Matt Mickle, Bryon Will, Grant Shepherd, Justin Meek, LeAnne McGill, Rachel Gusman and Brandi Nowakowski.
YLD Treasurer Bryon Will said, “It was a great experience gathering with my friends and colleagues to be a part of a very worthy cause. We appreciated the opportunity to give back to our community and to those in need.”
Food collection points were throughout the metro Oklahoma City area, and the YLD volunteers were stationed at a post office in north Oklahoma City. When a mail carrier’s vehicle became loaded with donations, they would drive to the post office, where the food was unloaded by the volunteers and then sorted by categories into bins inside a large food bank truck.
This is the Regional Food Bank’s most important food drive of the year because food bank supplies are often more strained in the summer. The food bank hoped to raise a million pounds of food and $1 million during the one-day drive.
