Have you ever been told to "go climb
a rock"? Oklahoma City lawyer Randy Grau has, and that's just what
he's going to do.
Mr. Grau, the Second Deputy County Commissioner for Oklahoma
County's District 3, will leave soon on what he sees
as "the journey
of a lifetime" -- climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. But Grau
won't be making the 19,340 foot climb just for kicks,
but for KICS - the Kigali International Community
School (KICS) in Kigali, Rwanda.
The school, established in 2006 in the Rwandan capital,
was begun in order to meet a need for an education
option for missionary families and aid workers who
are assisting the government in their efforts to rebuild
after the 1994 genocide that took nearly one million
lives. KICS partnered with Oklahoma City-based Rwanda
Outreach and Community (ROC) Foundation and is part
of the ROC Education Center.
Grau plans on starting his fund-raising climb August
7th with the hopes of being one of the few climbers
to reach the summit - a goal only a third of climbers
actually achieve. Good luck, Randy.
