Tulsa attorney Allen
M. Smallwood will
serve as president of the Oklahoma Bar Association
for 2010. Members of the OBA Board
of Governors elected to serve with him were announced
at the OBA’s 105th Annual Meeting today in Oklahoma City.
Smallwood served as OBA president-elect for 2009, a position that
automatically elevates him to become president following his one-year
president-elect term. He will officially be sworn into office on Jan.
15, 2010, at the Oklahoma Supreme Court courtroom in the State Capitol
Building.
Smallwood is a solo criminal defense practitioner in Tulsa. He was
admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1975. He is a two-time past
president of the Tulsa County Bar Association and a former director
of the Tulsa County Bar Foundation. His role as association president
is a voluntary position in which he will serve while continuing his
law practice.
The 2009 presidential term of Guymon resident Jon
Parsley will come
to an end on Dec. 31, and Parsley will remain on the OBA Board of Governors
for one year as immediate past president.
Deborah Reheard of Eufaula will serve as president-elect during 2010,
and Oklahoma City attorney Mack K. Martin will fill the office of vice
president.
Also elected to the OBA Board of Governors to represent
their judicial districts are Susan B. Shields, Oklahoma
City; Glenn A. Devoll, Enid; and Ryland
Louis Rivas, Chickasha. David
A. Poarch of Norman will serve as an OBA member-at-large. They will
serve three-year terms. Tulsa attorney Molly A.
Aspan, who will chair
the Young Lawyers Division next year, will serve a one-term on the board.
The 16,000-member Oklahoma Bar Association, headquartered in Oklahoma
City, was created by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to advance the administration
of justice and to foster and maintain learning, integrity, competence,
public service and high standards of conduct among Oklahoma’s legal
community. The 18-member Board of Governors meets monthly at locations
across the state and governs the association.
