Allen M. Smallwood of Tulsa will serve as OBA president-elect for 2009, and will take office as OBA president on Jan. 1, 2010. Smallwood is a solo criminal defense practitioner in Tulsa.

The office of vice president will be filled by Linda S. Thomas of Bartlesville, and the new Young Lawyers Division chairperson is Richard Rose of Oklahoma City. The offices of vice president and Young Lawyers Division chairperson are one-year terms.

Also elected to the OBA Board of Governors to represent their judicial districts are Charles W. Chesnut, Miami; Martha Rupp Carter, Tulsa; Steven Dobbs, Oklahoma City; and Lou Ann Moudy, Henryetta.

In addition to their full-time law practices, the new board members will begin serving their terms on Jan. 1, 2009. They will officially be sworn into office Jan. 23, 2009, at the Oklahoma Supreme Court courtroom in the State Capitol.

The 16,000-member Oklahoma Bar Association, headquartered in Oklahoma City, was created by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to advance the administration of justice and to foster and maintain learning, integrity, competence, public service and high standards of conduct among Oklahoma’s legal community.
