(Oklahoma City – May 27) Blaring sirens
and screeching horns, police cars, ambulances and fire trucks barrel
through the intersection hoping to get to the scene just fast enough.
Emergency first responders put their lives on the line every day for
us. To assist these men and women who serve their communities, the Oklahoma
Bar Association’s “Wills for Heroes” program will provide free legal
services in the areas of wills and probate to Durant’s first responders.
Area lawyers will be providing this service in Durant on June 6 from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Durant City Hall Council Chambers.
Attorneys will help prepare wills for first responders and their spouses.
This includes all emergency and volunteer police officers, firefighters,
paramedics, correction and probation officers. The wills will help first
responders make determinations about what will happen to their assets
and family in the event of their deaths. The program is offered as a
volunteer service of the OBA’s Young Lawyers Division.
Durant Police Chief Durward Cook said, "We are glad to know that
our families will be protected in case of an unfortunate event and look
forward to participating in the Wills for Heroes program with the Bryan
County Bar Association.”
Matt Mickle, who is coordinating the program in Durant, said, “The
Bryan County Bar Association is excited to be working with the first
responders in the area. We have received great feedback and encouragement
from Durant Police Chief Cook, Fire Chief
Dow and Bryan County EMS Director
Barrett. The bar association wants to encourage all emergency and volunteer
first responders in the Bryan County area to participate.”
